Erin M. Riley Provacative Weaving, Art Basel Miami 2013 #Culture

Erin M. Riley Tapestry
Collection of Erin M. Riley Tapestries
Erin M. Riley is a Philadelphia based
Tapestry artist. She has been in the spotlight here lately due to her innovative approach, to what is often considered "boring", and outdated skill of the past knitting. Yes the images that you are looking at are hand loomed one of a kind masterpieces by the 28 year old artist. These tapestries are thought provoking and flat out sexy. They bring the viewer in and make them feel almost like they are doing something they shouldn't be doing. Very risque so to speak. From images of the current trend of "selfies" but not the common selfie that you would post to your social media portal of your choice, oh no. We are talking after hours, one too many drinks, "Wyd stranger ;p"? at 1:30 am on a Saturday night selfie. The ones that bear it all. From fully depicted images of the female anatomy to obscene drug use, and binge drinking. These modern works of art have had me entranced for the past few weeks. If I was still in my college hey days of partying non stop, and trying to maintain my bad girl image. I'm pretty sure I would have one of her works adorning my dorm room wall.
Sexting Selfies were Riley's muse for these modern works.

Exhibit at Miami Art Basel

Art Basel Miami ended today. The week long event took place last week along the world famous South Beach streets. It's a melting pot of culture. Where the "Who's Who" in the art industry collide with Hollywood A-Lister's, Music Moguls, trickled down to the South Floridian Tourist. Who just happened to take their annual vacation in the middle of the biggest event for the art world along the Atlantic. You can tell that it's not your typical art fair. This year hip hop heavyweight, Rico Love, hosted his Birthday Party during Art Basel Miami. He was a guest curator. So it pays to step outside your comfort zone and dare to be different. Never get boxed in or categorized to just be grouped with the masses. What society thinks you should be, how you act, what you like, what you wear, what music you listen to,what to eat, etc.... I love art, and I listen to tons of different genres of music. Just to immerse myself in different cultures and being able to spark up a conversation with anyone. Networking with different groups, and sects of people that is something no education can teach you. Be an individual. Never blend in, I try my hardest to stand out. That is an art form in itself if you ask me. This is on my to do list for 2014 I hope to be there for next years event.

Lets get back to business.  Here are a few of this season's most buzzworthy Fall/Winter 2013 must have... none other than the coveted OVERSIZED COAT. From inspirations including military styles, playful colors , mixed-media textures, and asymmetrical/architectural designs these are some of the trends that every fashionista must have. The Trench Coat has always been a go to for outerwear. Its very versatile and chic, whether you dress it up with skyscraper heels or give it edge appeal with combat style military boots this is one all around class act, also another trend I have seen with the trench in particular is the featuring of mixing different textures commonly termed mixed-media. Like the one I have shown here from Sam Edelman that can be found at Dillard's , alongside this ravishing Steve Madden trench with faux leather arms. Next in the line up is the oh so sophisticated Cocoon ...
